PRINCETON 80L

80M inverted L w/1:1 balun

PRI 80L

The inverted L antenna is an excellent choice when a full size dipole is not convenient.  This antenna is a 1/4 wave Marconi, feed against earth ground or counterpoise such as radials.  If one has a good RF ground, simply drive a suitable ground rod and attach the short end of the balun directly to the ground rod.  The balun must be vertical to prevent moisture build up.  An alternative would be to attach at least one 1/4 length radial to the ground side of the balun.  Use the formula L(ft) = 246/f(MHz) to calculate the correct radial length.

The wire radiating portion should run staight up as high as practical and then forizontal out to a suitable tie point.  Because every installation is different, do not feel confined to a particular layout.  Simply do what you must to get the wire stung in the air.  The antenna will radiate, you will hear stations and you will make contacts.

Your radio's internal automatic antenna tuner will allow full operation on the band of resonance for this antenna.  A good outboard tuner such as the LDG will allow operation on other bands as well.

This particular antenna is 63ft long and constructed with coated FLEX-WEAVE antenna wire and 1:1 balun.
